Now-a-days 64-bit systems are all the rage in smartphones, and MediaTek isn’t going to be left behind. They’ve announced their newest 64-bit MT6732 chipset for 2014, complete with cat-4 LTE connectivity, a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARM cortex-A53 CPU and a Mali-T670 GPU. On paper, it’s a very capable chipset that’s bound to end up in a ton of budget phones by the end of the year.
The MT6732 is capable of low-power 1080p video playback, a wide range of codec support, and 1080p video capture at 30 fps. It also supports a host of radios, including HSPA+, dual-band WiFi, Miracast, and Bluetooth 4.0. It’s slated to be used in devices in Q3 of 2014.
In addition to the MT6732, MediaTek also announced the MT6630, which is the world’s first chipset to support the combination of 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, Miracast, tri-band GPS reception, and an FM receiver. The robust 6630 is set to be used in devices at some point of the second half of the year.
On top of two brand new SoCs, MediaTek has also introduced Pump Express, which is designed to cut the charging time of a device in half. Devices utilizing pump express should be available at some point in the first half of the year.
